Campaign Planning
Campaign planning comes in two different forms: long range and unit. While these plans may be integrated into your normal long range plans or unit plans, the simulation aspect of the Needs and Nations framework requires additional thought given to particular aspects for it to be effective.
Long Range PlanningThe key to long-range planning is to ensure that particular core accomplishments are set as aims for your student's nations. In this example, we have run each unit of study alongside a fundamental challenge question for the nation. These questions focus the larger unit into one or two key understandings that each nation must seek to answer as it navigates the world. From each challenge question, we then draw out several associated activities that students will work to complete to assist them with their answering of the question.

Unit PlanningUnit planning for Needs and Nations focuses in the plot of your story, happenings of your world, and activities for your students into one usable document. Here is an example of a week-long implementation of the Needs and Nations framework. By creating a scenario for students, connecting it to course outcomes, and engaging multiple literacies, students are able to engage with the required understandings in a number of innovative manners.
